It has been 3 weeks since I updated my logs here. Did the Histroric Half Marathon on Feb 21. It was a good race and I did a bit better that I thought I would do. It is a hilly course so I was surprised that I ran it in under 2 hours. The day was a great tempature and the sun was out.
I've run my last couple of long runs a bit too fast. Tomorrow I will be running 26K and I will try and start a bit slower.

Vancouver Marathon training week 6
This was a great week. Look like I figured out that my ankle pain was being cause by a tight calf muscle. After a really good day of stretching on Tuesday there was way less pain and it continues to get better.
Had a really good tempo run on Tuesday night. So good that it left me a little sluggish on Wednesday night's run.
On Saturday I went to the Peak Centre for Human Performance in Vancouver. I had a run assessment done. I haven't had one since August 2009. The run assessment measures your heart rate, speed, and blood lactate at a bunch of stages. Basically they keep increasing the speed every 3 minutes until you quit. It was a tough test and I was just about throwing up at the end. It is still really fun to push yourself as hard as you can. I should get the result mid next week.
Here is the log for the week:
Sun Jan 31: 16K LSD. Sport Shape up workout
Mon Feb 1: 1.2K Barefoot on the treadmill. Sport Shape up workout
Tue Feb 2: 5.7K Tempo
Wed Feb 3: 10K Tempo
Thu Feb 4: 8.9K Steady
Fri Feb 5: Rest
Sat Feb 6: 6K during run assessment
Total Mileage: 47.8K

Vancouver Marathon training weeks 4 and 5
I had planned to do a entry at the end of week 4 but I didn't get around to it so I'll capture the 2 weeks in this blog.
I've been bothered by an ankle problem for the last 3 or 4 weeks. It is very sporadic. Some runs have no pain, some runs a bit of pain and some runs suck. I beginning to think the problem is with a tight calf muscle. If I fell the tendon pulling I stretch my calf and it feels better for a while. I tend to be a tense person so I probably need to focus on relaxing more while I run. Not easy when you are worried about your ankle.
On January 17th I ran the Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon in Phoenix Arizona. It was so nice to run in the sun and heat for a change. Running in shorts and a singlet felt great. I ran it in 2:04:56. Not my best race but I wasn't planning on running hard and my ankle started bugging me around 15 or 16K.

First Blog Post
Well this is my first blog post so I should probably introduce myself. I have been running since October 2008. I ran my first half marathon in June 2009 and I'm currently training for my first marathon. To date I have completed 5 half marathons.
During the day I'm a Network Analyst at a decent sized Automobile insurance company. I've been working on networks for the last 12 years.
Most of my life I have been over weight and in November 2006 I was at my highest weight of 224 pounds. I lost about 50 pounds of that before I started running.
Happy running!
